Hogamany & First Footing



The 31st of December in Scotland is a celebration with its roots in Pagan times, including that of "first footing." This custom states that the first foot inside your door after midnight will foretell of the next year's fortune. For this reason you would want an especially fortunate person to be the first to enter. New brides, new mothers, or anyone born on January 1st were much in demand as 'first footers."
It is said that it is especially good luck if your first footer is a tall dark man. That sounds like good luck to me, send him my way!

In questa vigilia
piena di luci inutili, capitone
auguri e tanto chiasso
me ne sono andato in una chiesa, sono
stato zitto zitto
ho chiuso gli occhi ed ho sentito
la voce del Natale: " Ragazzi- mi diceva -dove andate?
non avete ancora capito che basta
un poco di amore, poco quanto la luce
di una candela per accendere tutte
le luci di stasera?"

full of vain lights, eel
wishes and much racket
I went into a church, i stayed silent
I closed my eyes and I heard
the voice of Christmas: " Guys - He told me-where are you going to?

The pure products of America
go crazy--
mountain folk from Kentucky
or the ribbed north end of
Jersey
with its isolate lakes and
valleys, its deaf-mutes, thieves
old names
and promiscuity between
devil-may-care men who have taken
to railroading
out of sheer lust of adventure--
and young slatterns, bathed
in filth
from Monday to Saturday
to be tricked out that night
with gauds
from imaginations which have no
peasant traditions to give them
character
but flutter and flaunt
sheer rags-succumbing without
emotion
save numbed terror
under some hedge of choke-cherry
or viburnum-
which they cannot express--
Unless it be that marriage
perhaps
with a dash of Indian blood
will throw up a girl so desolate
so hemmed round
with disease or murder
that she'll be rescued by an
agent--
reared by the state and
sent out at fifteen to work in
some hard-pressed
house in the suburbs--
some doctor's family, some Elsie--
voluptuous water
expressing with broken
brain the truth about us--
her great
ungainly hips and flopping breasts
addressed to cheap
jewelry
and rich young men with fine eyes
as if the earth under our feet
were
an excrement of some sky
and we degraded prisoners
destined
to hunger until we eat filth
while the imagination strains
after deer
going by fields of goldenrod in
the stifling heat of September
Somehow
it seems to destroy us
It is only in isolate flecks that
something
is given off
No one
to witness
and adjust, no one to drive the car

Sefardita music

Sefarad is the Hebrew name for Spain, the second promise land for those many Hebrews that were driven away by Queen Isabel , The Catholic.

Hebrew music was nourrished from the different kinds of music it lived with. When this mixing of Arabic and Christian cultures was exiled it became popular in the Mediterranean countries from Portugal to Turkey, but also in the Americas and wherever it went it took inspiration from the cultures it met.

The Sefardita repertory is very large: from the most ancient romances to the contemporary authors. Sometimes it recalls North African music; sometimes that of Estern Europe ;sometimes it is instrumental dances; sometimes it is writer's songs.
The same melody, the same topics in the opposite poles of the world.

TIME

Time is but the form of the inner sense, i.e. of the insight of ourselves and of our inner state.
In fact time can't be a determination of outer phenomena: it isn't either like shape or place, etc; on the contrary, it determines the relations of the representations in our inner state.
It is exactly because this inner insight has no shape at all, that we try to make up for this failing through the analogy and we represent the temporal series by a endlessly extended line wherein
multiplicity forms a one -dimension series. Thus from this line properties we argue all those of time, except this only one ; that the parts of the line are simultaneous whereas the parts of time are always consecutive. It follows that the same representation of time is an intuition since all its relations may be expressed by an outer insight.

The Pertubazione are a group of six musicians from Rivoli, near Turin, north-west of Italy.
They have been working on tracing a middle way between the bright world of independent music and the Italian classical art song.
The Pertubazione primarily write songs. Songs that try to open a world
to unveil a universe, an imagination and that find maturity in their fourth cd "Canzoni allo specchio"( Songs in the mirror) produced by Paolo Benvegnù whose "Chiedo alla polvere" ( I ask dust) is the first hit.
